About us

We're a company called Elk Audio. We are an audio-tech company that develops patent pending technologies enabling a new generation of real-time audio solutions that are ready to take advantage of 5G technology and edge computing to finally bring music into the connected world.

Our team is made of music lovers, ranging from violin makers and python magicians to computer PhDs and record label managers. We're from all over the world but mainly based in Stockholm, Sweden.

As you probably know by now we are the makers of Elk Audio OS, the world’s fastest audio operating system and the backbone of Elk LIVE.

Elk Audio OS is a Linux-based fine-tuned hybrid system with dual Kernel (RTOS / Linux) and custom audio driver - using a single CPU, providing roundtrip latencies down to 1ms. The system is optimised for multicore processors and is easy to connect multichannel audio codecs.

Elk Audio OS runs on general purpose CPUs, i.e. standard readily available off the shelf components such as ARM or Intel. Elk natively supports multiple standards (WiFi, BT, USB, 4G) and the OS has already been successfully tested over 5G

Elk can receive/process/send in real-time not only audio but also METADATA synced with the audio signal. Elk is an OS for embedded environments and like any operating system, it is built to run different kinds of applications on top of it.

Elk’s technology stack is suitable not only for musical instruments or pro-audio devices, but also for smart headphones, VR / AR Metaverse, HD Audio Conferencing, Remote Voiceover, Podcasting, Online Gaming and many other audio applications which require low-latency audio.

Leveraging the low latency and networking features of Elk Audio OS, in 2022 Elk launched a consumer service called Elk LIVE which allows remote musicians to play live together online like being in the same room.
